Have you been trying to jump on the “buy local” bandwagon but have found it to be more difficult than anticipated? Me too, until I found the Great Basin Community Food Co-op. The co-op is a community owned grocery store and it just moved to its new location (240 Court St. Reno, NV 89501) on February 11, 2012.
They offer everything you would expect from a chain grocery store including local produce, beer and wine, bulk food and health and beauty items. Their goal is to always “provide the best, most wholesome food available at the lowest price possible. We believe in safe, sustainable, growing and manufacturing practices”.
In addition to their food selection they also have a few upcoming events:
Edible Landscape Workshop events every Thursday from 10am – 12pm In April and May.
Loping Coyote Plant Sale on Sunday April 8th from 9am – 1pm Located at the co-op.
Grand Opening Festival and Spring Seedling Sale May 26th — 9am to 1pm Located on Flint St. in front of the co-op.
For more info you can visit their website, greatbasinfood.coop, or follow them on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Flickr.
